Storytime with my children has always been one of my favorite activities.  Reading is an adventure and we love going on those journey’s together.  I get to take my kids to places in their imagination through books that they will always remember.

As a publisher, I love that I have gotten to start a tradition of inviting families to our local indoor play place, Ginger Bugs, for storytime.  Early literacy is so important for these young children, and getting to introduce them to new books is always a special time.  This week’s story was the newest Pete the Cat book, which will land on book shelves on September 3, Pete the Cat and the Perfect Pizza Party.

If you aren’t familiar with Pete the Cat, he is quite the character!  Pete is a blue cat who absolutely loves every to be “Groovy!”  He can be found in his books playing sports, learning music, spending time with his friends and always willing to try new things.  All of the Pete the Cat books are positive and fun for families to enjoy together.

Pete the Cat and the Perfect Pizza Party (say that 3 times fast), was not only an adorably illustrated book, but it had the kids laughing and giggling throughout the story.  Let’s just say that Pete’s friends don’t exactly put “typical” toppings on their pizzas, and the kids loved finding out what crazy topping each friend wanted to add.  From pickles and pretzels to pistachios and papaya, it was quite a mouth full (no pun intended).

After storytime we enjoyed our own perfect pizza party!  Although we didn’t add all the toppings that Pete the Cat had on his pizza, we did enjoy time with our friends over delicious cheese and pepperoni pizza.  One little girl actually ventured out and put her cheese crackers on her pizza!

Pete the Cat books are always inspiring children to be original and try new things!  All of the Pete the Cat characters have different traits and personalities that your child (and you) can relate to.  This would be a fun book to read to the picky eaters in your family too!  At the end of the day, it’s not about the toppings on the pizza, but about the people you shared it with.

Pick up your copy of Pete the Cat and the Perfect Pizza Party on September 3 and get ready to take your family on an imaginative adventure of pizza toppings and be prepared for some laughter!
